My name is Keith Booker and I am honored to serve as the assistant principal of the Maxine Smith STEAM Academy. Prior to coming to the STEAM Academy, I led the award-winning Optional Engineering Program at East High School for eight years. I became an educator in 2004 following a successful 20-year career as a designer and engineer. I hold an A.S. in Computer Engineering, a B.S. in Industrial Technology, an M.A.T. in Instruction and Curriculum Leadership, and an Ed.S in Education Administration and Supervision.
As an educator, my focus is to prepare students for success in their post-secondary and professional careers. I believe this is best achieved through the use of hands-on project-based instruction with a concentration on real-world applications. As an educational leader, I have focused on equipping fellow educators with the skills they need to be successful in the unique environment of STEM education.
I serve on the Tennessee STEM Leadership Council and am a Lead Master Teacher with the West Tennessee STEM Hub. For the past six years, I have served on the board of directors of the Tennessee Technology Engineering Education Association. I am a recipient of the Teacher of the Year Award from the Association for Career and Technical Education and State Advisor of the Year Award from the Tennessee Technology Student Association.
